Where can I place an ADU?

Can I build an ADU on my property?

Enter an address to place a typical accessory dwelling footprint on the lot. MyLotFit tests physical fit on the sketch. It does not decide whether zoning or a permit will allow the unit.

Free planning sketch. Not a survey, title search, or construction approval.

Fit versus permission

“Can I build an ADU on my property?” is two questions. The planner answers the first: will a typical rectangle sit in the yard? We use three planning footprints—14 × 32, 18 × 36 and 22 × 40 ft—the same family as a laneway or coach house pad.

The second question is zoning, servicing, parking and process. That is the city. We do not read your zone or issue a permit. In Metro Vancouver, see laneway home rules for published size notes, then confirm with the municipality.
